Digital Economy Ministry, Amazon Web Services sign agreement

Amman, Feb 25 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Saturday signed an agreement to develop the capacities and skills of Jordanian youth in cloud computing, and support startups to help them in designing, developing and later marketing their applications.

The agreement, which was signed by Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmad Hanandeh, and Mohamed Afifi, AWS head of sales- GCC and Levant, aims to train trainers in the vocational Training Corporation on basic cloud computing skills to acquire professional certificates that are accredited by Amazon after passing the necessary tests, according to a ministry statement.

To expand training for most young people, knowledge stations' trainers, who are accredited by AWS, will train qualified young people on advanced and intermediate cloud computing skills, it added.

The agreement also aims to make the AWS Academy program available for universities that meet the criteria for participation, with the aim of empowering students to hone their cloud computing and machine learning skills, through self-learning on the AWS platform or an accredited trainer, to obtain certificates from Amazon after passing the tests, a process that will enhance their chances in the labor market, said the statement.

The ministry said it will coordinate with public universities to present the requirements of the program to submit an accreditation application so that each university will have an AWS Academy program.

Hanandeh stressed the importance of cooperation with global firms in preparing the training tracks to raise awareness of emerging technologies that are necessary to build successful startups and bridge the entrepreneurs' knowledge and skills gap.

This effort coincides with the aspirations of Amazon Web Services in the Middle East to help build the capacities of Jordanian youth in emerging technology and entrepreneurship and qualify them to join the global and local markets in line with the goals of the youth, technology and jobs strategy in Jordan, Afifi pointed out.
