Cabinet approves cloud computing services policy

Amman, Aug. 5 (Petra) –

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship on Wednesday said the Cabinet had approved the 2020 cloud computing services policy.

In a press statement, the ministry indicated that one of the main objectives of the policy is to define a clear path for Jordan's cloud services future, as part of the digital transformation plans and long-term national plans, and to set a national vision and clear goals with regard to developing a national cloud computing policy.

The ministry stated that it will assume responsibility for following up on the implementation of the policy requirements in addition to reviewing, amending and updating it every three years to keep pace with local and regional developments and international best practices.

The policy, it explained, will play a key role in the process of digital transformation and the integration of future technologies, and will become the cornerstone for technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution such as artificial intelligence and the internet of things, quantum computing and other modern technologies.

The ministry pointed out that this policy will be applied to all government agencies that utilize cloud services either provided through the government or private or local or global cloud computing services.

It stated that the policy includes provisions on the protection of personal data that are stored or transferred, or are being processed by cloud service providers on behalf of beneficiaries, preventing unauthorized access to that data, and disclosing, damaging, processing, transferring, modifying, or destroying them according to the Protection of Personal Data Law and the relevant legislation and regulations.
