Request for an International Standard Book Number (ISBN)
Introduction

An agreement has been signed between the Department and ISBN Agency in Berlin in 1998 to be their sole agent in Jordan for ten years. The Agency is now replaced by a company located in London.

ISBN number consists of 10 digits, and will be 13 digits by 2007.

Required Documents

In order to obtain an ISBN number for the first time, the applicant has to present a document showing the expected annual issuance of his published books.

Procedures

1.        Completing ISBN application, taking the following into consideration:

1.1      Each new edition has separate ISBN

1.2      Each separate part obtains ISBN

1.3      Any single book published with different covers obtains ISBN for each cover for the same edition.

2.        Data Entry into computer and typing a formal letter including the ISBN for the attached book.

3.        Signing the letter from the Director General or his Assistant.

4.        The applicant has to fix the ISBN on two sites on the book:

4.1      At the bottom of the internal title page.

4.2      On the back cover.
